 Frequently  Asked  Questions

What is the Directed Giving Alliance?

The Directed Giving Alliance is a group of local charities that work together to provide donors with increased choices in their workplace giving campaigns.

Who are the member agencies of Directed Giving Alliance?

Click here for the complete list of member agencies along with information about each mission.

How long has this group existed?

The Directed Giving Alliance was convened in 2005 by the Rochester Area Foundation.

Are Directed Giving agencies a part of the United Way of Olmsted County?

Currently, there are no DGA charities that are also member agencies of the United Way of Olmsted County.

Is there proper oversight of donations given to the charities involved with Directed Giving Alliance?

There is strict oversight of the charities.   To get on the DGA pledge form, charities must pass an annual audit by an independent third party:  The Local Independent Charities of America  (L.I.C.)    If the charity passes the L.I.C. audit, they are awarded the L.I.C. "Seal of Excellence".    This award confirms that the charity is meeting L.I.C.'s standards of public accountability, program effectiveness, and cost effectivenes.

In the United States today, it is estimated that less than 10% of charities can meet these standards.

Is it easy to give through the Directed Giving pledge form?

Yes!   On the Directed Giving payroll deduction pledge sheet, simply check the box next to the charity (or charities) you wish to support.   You can choose one, two, or even all of them!    Click here to see last year's pledge form.

Is it more efficient for the organizations involved to receive funds through Directed Giving?

Yes, efficiencies are increased.   When supporters donate directly through the Directed Giving pledge form, you are helping your favorite charities fullfill their missions that are important to YOU - the donor!
